Re-Victimization
When the justice system that is generally supposed to protect the rights of victims starts abusing its power, silencing victims of trauma through the loopholes in its policies and practices, it leaves a lasting impact on the psychological and emotional health of the victims.
Victims come to the legal system with the hope of receiving validation that their voices will be heard. But instead of ensuring transparency and justice, the system further silences them, denying their lawful right to be heard by imposing restrictions on them. Silencing takes many forms in the legal setting, such as being restricted from deposing defendants, denied access to critical documents, or enforcing NDAs and gag orders. Thus, this book aware individuals of the unseen harm caused when they are forced to silence by the very system that is supposed to protect them.
